Project Overview
Bafagro is a leading manufacturer of fluid fertilizers based in North Central Algeria. The business was established in 2014 by Mr. Lyes ABTOUT, whose family has been involved in horticulture and poultry for several generations throughout Algeria.
Bafagro has been an innovator in the field of liquid fertilizers and has recently formed a strong alliance with Texas Biotech, a US-based manufacturer. The two companies will work together in R&D and raw material supply. Bafagro will also manufacture Texas Biotech’s patented microbial products for its own target markets and establish its sales organization.
The new company management started the construction of a production complex with a 120K/year capacity NPK compound fertilizer, 10K/year capacity Soluble NPK fertilizer, and 15 million liters/year qualified liquid fertilizer production complex at a 12,000 m² warehouse and total 22,000 m² land in the industrial zone of Western Algeria at the end of August 2022. The company has ordered machinery and equipment designed for production.
Bafagro has a strong research and development focus and carries out activities including formulation advances, fertilizer compatibility customization, and field trials with the assistance of growers, agronomists, and independent consultants.
Bafagro’s manufacturing facility is poised to become a premium, high-volume business providing products to a wide range of customers in Africa, the Mediterranean Coast, and the MENA Region, including some of Algeria’s largest corporate agricultural producers, with new investments.
There are currently more than 50 standard and three microbial bacterial-based formulations on Bafagro’s product list, and they will also manufacture custom blends to meet clients’ nutritional requirements.
Project Goals & Objectives
This is an important project because the world has clearly understood that after the pandemic process and the Ukraine war, the importance of agriculture and the supply of fertilizer, which is the most important input of agriculture, has turned into a crisis. This crisis can create potential customers for us in foreign markets. In this regard, we can create sales channels in cooperation with international players.
We aim to sell 8 million liters of liquid and microbial product groups in foreign markets. Given how much effort goes into production in Africa, this is an aggressive goal but certainly achievable. We plan to complete the entire project by the end of 2023. Our project team and machinery and equipment suppliers are aware that they have to meet the deadline. Financial payment plans have been made, and the provision schedule has been developed by the project management.
Product Range
We plan to produce 14 million liters of inorganic and organic fluid in over 50 different formulas. In addition, there will be 1 million liters of microbial fluid stimulant in our microbial production lines. We are also planning to produce 10,000 tons of NPK soluble fertilizer in different eight compositions per year in our NPK Soluble Blending Production Lines.
Project Financial Summary
The total investment cost of the project is $20 million. In addition, a reserve of $8 million will be kept as working capital.
